Prevent Access To Local Disk Drives In Windows System



When your computer is turned on all your Local Disks (C, D, E, etc.) drives are seen from My Computer. Anyone can access your data if it is not kept hidden. If you have some private data like image, videos in that case you must want to prevent others to enter inside that particular drives. In that case need to change the privacy setting for your local disk drives so that no one can access your private data. This article help you to learn how to prevent access to local disk drives in your system. To do so in your system just follow the below steps.

1. Click on Starts and select Run


2. Type gpedit.msc and click on OK. Group Policy dialog box opens


3. Now expand Administrative Templates under User Configuration



4. Expand Windows Components and select Windows Explorer


5. Now find " prevent access to drives from My Computer " from right hand side pane and then to open Properties double click on it  or right click on it and select Properties


7. Select Enabled and select the desired drive under Restrict all drives section


8. Click Apply and then OK


Now your desired drive is prevent from access from My Computer and no one able to access it. If you want to access the prevented drives you need to select Not Configured instead of Enabled at step 7 and then everyone can access it. 



Remember you must be an administrator of your system. Only an system administrator account has privilege to do so. Other user account does not have privilege to do so.
