Social Networking Site Facebook Turns 9 Years Old

The world's biggest social networking site popularly known as Facebook turns 9 years old today. Facebook was started on February 4, 2004 by Mark Zuckerburgby in a dorm of Harvard University. Mark Zuckerburg started Facebook with the help of his four friends Dustin Moskovitz, Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum and Chris Hughes. At initial days Facebook was called and later it was renamed as just The world's most loved social networking site Facebook expanded to other college and universities in March 2004, and gets huge popularity within months.

Software giant Microsoft bought 1.6 percent stake of Facebook for $240 million in October 2007. Search giant Google was also offered partnership deal to Facebook. However, the deal was rejected by Facebook. In May 2012, Facebook went in public and was valued at over $100 billion after IPO.

David Fincher directed 'The Social Networkon Facebook starring Jesse Eisenberg as founder Mark Zuckerberg in 2012 which. The movie received eight Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director (Fincher), and Best Actor (Eisenberg), and won three for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score, and Best Film Editing.  At the 68th Golden Globe Awards, the film won Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Original Score.
