How To Add A Website To Google Webmaster Tools

Google Webmaster Tools is the most popular, free of cost and and highly recommended web service of Google for webmasters like bloggers and website owners. It allows webmasters to analyze the detailed web reports of a website regarding website visibility, indexing status, crawl errors on Google search engine and many more. In order to use Google Webmaster Tools you must be the owner of a website and have full access to it as well as you must have a Google account. Visit the Google Webmaster Tools web page

If you already have a Google account then use your existing user id and password to login to Google Webmaster Tools. Otherwise you need to create a Google account first. Read also: How to setup Google Tag Manager.

Steps to add website to Google Webmaster Tools

Once logged in to the Google Webmaster Tools, you will see ADD A SITE in red colour located left hand almost side top corner. Click ADD A SITE and then you need to enter the URL of your website. Verify the Ownership

After adding your website to Google Webmaster Tools, you need to verify your website. You can verify the ownership in two ways. One is recommended method and another is alternate method. Read also : How to fix HTTP and HTTPS mixed content errors.

Recommended Method

The recommended method is to download HTML verification file from Google Webmaster Tools  and upload it to the root directory of your website. After uploading that file to the root directory confirm successful upload by visiting that file and after that finally click the Verify button on the Google Webmaster Tools. Verify Ownership using Meta Tag

Bloggers have to use the alternate method to verify the ownership of their blog. In the alternate method, bloggers have 4 different options to verify their ownership. But preferred option blogger is to add meta tags to their blog's template. Read also : How to setup Page Level Ads.

After adding the meta tags to their blog's template finally click the Verify button on the Google Webmaster Tools. Once you have verified the ownership you will see your newly added website.
